CONNECT THE DOTS GAME
The Connect the Dots Game helps you transition from how you currently feel about money or your finances, to how you would really like to feel. RULES OF THE GAME: The rules are very simple. You just keep playing until you feel better. It’s about finding relief from not feeling good to feeling better. ITEMS REQUIRED TO PLAY the Connect the Dots Game: 1 person – you A computer or paper to write on A money or financial condition situation that causes you to have a negative feeling. (example: I don’t have enough money to pay my bills this month.) START: write a few sentences about what has happened that causes you to feel uneasy about your finances. (example: I bought a lot of clothes and charged them to my credit card. My credit card bill is going to be enormous this month and I can’t pay it.) FIND THE FEELING: write a few sentences about your emotions and how you feel about this. You will be describing emotions that do not feel good to you, such as you feel angry, irritated, hopeless, disappointed. (example: I really regret buying all those clothes. I am disappointed and angry with myself for doing this.) FIND THE NEW DESIRE: write a few sentences describing what this situation has caused you to want. Describe what your new desire is. (example: I’m going to look for a job that pays more money. I’m going to develop a budget and stick to it. I am going to return some of the clothes I bought that I really don’t need.) End this part with the statement: “I desire to clean this up!” PLACE THE DOTS: Now, place a dot on the left side of the page and one on the right side of the page. Under the left dot, write “where I am.” (draw a sad face if you want) Under the right dot, write “where I want to be.” (draw a happy face if you want) CONNECT THE DOTS: Now, just write and ramble about the situation until you feel better. In essence, you are trying to find a way of feeling just a little bit better. You are standing on the left dot and trying to move yourself to the right dot. (Example: I hate being in this situation. I hate not having enough money to do what I want to do. I bought all those clothes and now I won’t be able to make the credit card payment. Now what do I do? Maybe I’ll take some of the clothes back and that will reduce the bill. I like to look good and nice clothes make me feel good about myself. Perhaps I’ll buy a little at a time instead of all at once. And I’m going to make a budget for myself and stick to it this time. And I am going to apply for the job that was advertised that pays a lot better than mine and is a lot closer to my house. I do feel a little better.) OBJECT OF CONNECT THE DOTS GAME: The object is to find some relief. It is to make yourself feel a little bit better. WINNER OF THE CONNECT THE DOTS GAME: When you feel better, you win the game. Congratulations! The better you feel…the more you have tapped into the guidance from within. The better you feel…the more freedom, empowerment, and enthusiasm you will feel. BONUS: When you feel better…your situation will change like magic.
